The Office of Foundation Relations and Corporate Philanthropy serves as the central university office connecting private funding partners with university leadership, faculty and programs. We work closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and our colleagues in Development who are situated in schools, centers and labs across campus.

The mission of UCLA as a public research university is the creation, dissemination, preservation and application of knowledge for the betterment of our global society. We work closely with external organizations to develop philanthropic partnerships with the capacity to advance shared goals for research, education and service that align with this mission.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE INCLUDE

  • Expert guidance to foundations, corporate donors and other entities interested in exploring philanthropic engagement with UCLA
  • Development and coordination of funding activities across campus that advance institutional priorities
  • Assistance identifying and navigating areas of research and programming across campus
  • Collaboration with faculty and staff to provide guidance in the pursuit of funding opportunities and awards as well as donor visits and recognition
  • Partnering with foundations, corporations and other philanthropic entities to identify and publicize funding opportunities to UCLA schools and faculty
  • Dissemination of comprehensive and strategic knowledge to the campus community on working successfully with private institutional donors
  • Facilitation of funding requests, awards and competitions
  • Serving as a resource for Request for Proposals and helping with grant reporting

STELLAR KIM

Executive Director
UCLA’s Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy

As Executive Director of UCLA’s central Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy, Stellar oversees a team that works with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Creative Activities, UCLA’s academic and administrative leadership, and with faculty and staff across UCLA’s schools, departments, centers, labs, and programs to develop funding partnerships between the university and a variety of philanthropic organizations.
Prior to joining UCLA, Stellar served as Senior Director of Foundation Relations at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focused on developing funder collaborations across MIT’s research enterprise and for major Institute initiatives and programs. Her tenure in higher education includes serving as adjunct faculty in English at public and private universities.

CYNTHIA GONZALEZ-SAYLOR

Research Associate
UCLA’s Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy

Cynthia manages the identification, evaluation, and dissemination to UCLA’s campus of foundation-sponsored funding opportunities, competitions, fellowships, and award nominations.
Prior to joining UCLA, Cynthia worked as Research Associate in the development office at New York University and as Development Research Manager in NYU’s School of Law. Earlier in her development career, Cynthia worked as a program assistant at the University of San Francisco and as a development associate at Baruch College of the City University of New York.
Cynthia holds an M.A. in International Education from the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

ELISABETH KEALY LEAVITT

Assistant Director
UCLA’s Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy

Elisabeth works with foundations and corporations on funding support and partnerships for various campus areas and programs at UCLA, including student-focused and community outreach activities.

Elisabeth was previously a fund manager in UCLA’s Psychology Department, where she worked with faculty, students, and staff on contract and grant administration, financial management, and analysis.  Prior to her arrival at UCLA, she worked in contract and grant administration at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Elisabeth holds an M.A. in Communications and Public Relations from California State University, Fullerton.

STEPHANIE DYAS

Deputy Director
UCLA’s Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy

Stephanie oversees all operational aspects of our work with foundations, helping funders navigate processes involved in working with UCLA, and managing coordination across offices at UCLA and the UC system.

Prior to joining UCLA, she was Director of Government and Foundation Relations for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

RESHMA AVENKAR

Director
UCLA’s Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy

Reshma Anvekar focuses on funding collaborations in health and life sciences, working across UCLA’s various departments, research centers, and labs, and our top-rated Health system.

She was previously Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine focused on healthcare initiatives across research, community initiatives, and medical education. She had special focus on the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology, the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute, the Institute on Inequalities in Global Health, and other institutional priorities, including medical education and health justice initiatives. Reshma held previous roles at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Upward Bound House, and St. John Bosco High School.

Reshma holds a B.A. in Business Administration, Marketing Concentration, from California State University, Fullerton.

SCOTT HASSLER, PhD

Senior Director
UCLA’s Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy

Scott W. Hassler focuses on funding opportunities centered on science, engineering, law, public policy, and social sciences. He serves as liaison to the Chancellor’s Sustainable Los Angeles Grand Challenge, focused on climate, environment, and sustainability.

Scott was most recently Foundation Relations Officer at The Wilderness Society, working on federal lands conservation, climate change, and outdoor access. Previously, he served as Director of Grants and Research and Manager of Advancement Services at John F. Kennedy University. Scott has a 30-year dual career in academic fundraising and instruction, serving in faculty roles in geology at UC Berkeley and other San Francisco area institutions. Scott’s research and publications focus on the sedimentary rock record of large asteroid impacts.

Scott received his M.A. and Ph. D in Geological Sciences from UC Santa Barbara.

LAURA FUENTES

Senior Director
UCLA’s Office of Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy

Laura Fuentes works with faculty and foundations to identify and develop funding opportunities across campus, with special focus on public health, nursing, law, public policy, education, social sciences, arts, and humanities. Laura is liaison to the Chancellor’s Depression Grand Challenge.

Previously, Laura was Associate Director of Foundation Relations at Johns Hopkins University and served as Deputy Director of the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion at JHU’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she oversaw research programs and communications. She is an experienced research program director in public health promotion and health communication, with publications in various scholarly journals.

Laura holds an M.A. in Communications from Johns Hopkins University and an M.M. in Music from Towson University.
